Who We Are
GrowthAssistant connects top marketing and operations talent with fast-growing companies that depend on great execution to scale. Founded in 2021 and named by Forbes as one of the best startups to work at, we’re a permanently remote team that runs on integrity, proactive candor, and a bias toward action — and we prioritize the human experience in everything we do. We hire for skill and for heart, and we invest in our people for the long haul.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring an Email Marketing Strategist (Klaviyo) to own the lifecycle messaging engine for a fast-growing direct-to-consumer cookware and home goods brand heading into its biggest selling season of the year. This is a hands-on, execution-heavy engagement — you’ll audit and optimize the existing Klaviyo flows (welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back, browse abandonment), build new automations to close the gaps in the customer lifecycle, and run a disciplined testing program across subject lines, send times, content, offers, and flow logic. You’ll also own the weekly SMS calendar and make sure email and SMS work as one coordinated journey rather than two channels competing for the same inbox. The through-line is holiday readiness: building an August–December testing and optimization roadmap, fixing automation gaps before peak traffic hits, tuning segmentation and cadence to lift repeat purchase rate, and flagging risks like deliverability issues, list fatigue, or flow bottlenecks with enough lead time to actually fix them before Black Friday/Cyber Monday and holiday shipping deadlines. A strong fit if you’re the kind of marketer who QAs every send twice, reads statistical significance properly, and would rather ship five well-documented tests than one big untested swing.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
-
Email Automation & Flow Optimization: Audit, maintain, and optimize existing email automations and flows — welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back, browse abandonment — and build new automations to fill gaps in the customer lifecycle.
-
Flow Branching & Segmentation Logic: Design, build, and maintain complex, multi-branch Klaviyo flows utilizing conditional splits, profile filters, and delay logic to ensure highly personalized, non-fatiguing user journeys.
-
Trigger Mechanics Management: Configure and troubleshoot event-based triggers and profile filters piped from Shopify to Klaviyo (e.g., Active on Site, Viewed Product, Added to Cart). Ensure custom properties and behavioral attributes are mapped perfectly to trigger appropriate sequences without overlap.
-
Testing & Experimentation: Design and execute A/B and multivariate tests across subject lines, send times, content, offers, and flow logic/triggers, then recommend and prioritize a testing backlog based on expected impact.
-
QA & Deliverability: QA every flow for deliverability, rendering, links, personalization, and segmentation accuracy before and during peak season, and monitor flow performance to make data-driven adjustments in real time.
-
SMS Program Management: Develop and run SMS tests across messaging, timing, frequency, and offers; own and manage the weekly SMS sending schedule and calendar; and keep SMS and email coordinated rather than conflicting or redundant across the customer journey.
-
Holiday Readiness & Revenue Goals: Build a holiday-specific testing and optimization roadmap for August–December, proactively identify and fix automation gaps before peak traffic hits, and adjust segmentation, targeting, and messaging cadence to support repeat purchase rate and overall revenue goals.
-
Risk Flagging: Surface deliverability issues, list fatigue, and flow bottlenecks with enough lead time to fix them before key selling periods such as Black Friday/Cyber Monday and holiday shipping deadlines.
-
Reporting & Collaboration: Report weekly on test results, flow performance, and SMS program metrics, and partner with creative/design and merchandising teams to keep content and offers aligned with the promotional calendar.
-
Deep Analytical Lookback Audits: Leverage Looker, Omni, and Klaviyo data to conduct deep-dive, lookback audits — going beyond basic reporting on delivered, open, click, or unsubscribe rates to investigate the “why” behind flow performance changes, actively identifying customer drop-off bottlenecks in abandonment and post-purchase series.
What You Bring
-
Email Automation Expertise: Proven experience managing email marketing automation in Klaviyo or a similar ESP, with hands-on ownership of lifecycle flows end to end.
-
Hands-on Klaviyo Architecture: 3+ years of active, hands-on experience building custom segment triggers, conditional splits, and managing multi-path flow logic within Klaviyo (experience with raw HTML/CSS templates preferred).
-
SMS Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with SMS marketing platforms such as Klaviyo SMS, Attentive, or Postscript.
-
Testing & Analytics: A strong understanding of A/B testing methodology and how to read statistical significance, plus an analytical mindset that’s comfortable pulling and interpreting performance data to guide decisions.
-
Data-Driven Root-Cause Vetting: Strong analytical skills with a proven track record of using BI tools (like Looker or Omni) to perform root-cause analysis on customer journey drop-offs, and comfortable explaining how to diagnose flow underperformance beyond surface-level dashboards.
-
Segmentation & Lifecycle Strategy: Experience with segmentation strategy and lifecycle marketing, and familiarity with repeat rate, LTV, and revenue-per-recipient as success metrics.
-
Independent Execution: Comfort working independently in a deadline-driven environment, especially during high-volume holiday periods.
-
Autonomous Strategic Sourcing: Strong consultative confidence — ability to take a marketing brief, analyze targeting requirements, proactively identify list-fatigue or deliverability risks, and propose alternative testing ideas.
-
Written Communication: Excellent written communication skills — this is email and SMS copy, after all.
Bonus Points if:
- E-commerce/DTC background
- Experience with Shopify or similar platforms
- Prior experience specifically prepping brands for Q4/holiday peak
